the studio classes

The Studio at Brooklyn Mercantile offers classes for students of all ages and abilities, in basic sewing, advanced sewing and quilt-making. Each class is lead by a local expert teacher, and all are kept small to ensure one-on-one instruction and encouragement. Our students tell us this provides them with a true sense of pride, accomplishment and creative expression. Each class is structured so a project is completed by the final workshop.

Class participants benefit from a discount on materials purchased at Brooklyn Mercantile, but students are welcome to bring their own materials (see class descriptions for requirements).

Simple Sew 1 (2 classes)
Learn sewing machine basics, essential tools and quality skills that enhance your joy of sewing! Start with practicing sewing drills and finish by making a drawstring tote bag. Bring in your machine or learn on one of ours! A great class to get you familiar with your machine before embarking on any of our other class offerings. 

Fee: $115.00 plus supplies

Tuesday & Thursdays - 7pm-9:30pm:

Simple Sew 2 (2 classes)
Advanced beginner machine sewing. Move along little sewer! In the first session we layout, mark and cut a skirt pattern. Session 2 - sew!

Fee: $115.00 plus supplies

KIDS: Simple Sew 1 (2 classes)

My First Quilt (4 classes)

In this project oriented class we will make a small quilt for decor use. During the four sessions (with extra studio time available for consultation and homework), we will go through the steps for successfully achieving your vision; fabric selection and prep, cutting squares and strips, accurate piecing and quilting, and detailed finishing. A new quilt design each session!

Sunday evenings - 7pm-10pm

Fee: $150.00 plus supplies
